| | Escape!!! | | When you absolutely need to escape, where do you like to go? If I just need a few hours I like some of the cafes here in Guelph, such as The Second Cup. If I need a day to myself I like to head to Toronto and walk around, making sure to stop at my favourite Turkish restaurant. If I need a couple of days I like to go to Sunset Villa, a litle Danish retreat not far from here, and if I need even more time, I'll be on the next plan to Sedona Arizona. | |
| | Did your plans go | | through without a hitch on Valentines Day? My hubby had planned on taking me for a horse drawn carriage ride downtown. We had only done this once before and had enjoyed it. However, this time around.. it started snowing. I mean it fell for hours, the weather just didn't cooperate. So we gave up and watched movies in bed with the kids. We will still go, but when the weather is warmer. | |
| | Have you ever visited an Amish community? | | It just came across me while I was surfing the web. I never pay attention to Amish community, a german descendants community, without using the modern technologies, like TV, electricity, or motor vehicles. They still choose to live the life like a century ago. Horse - drawn carriage, tap water from the well, etc.... Their lives are simple and base on farming I believe. I was curious about their lifestyle though. I just want to see it myself. I just wonder how many of you ever see an Amish community? | |
| | I've been sucked into my computer | | Can you count how many hours a week you are inside your computer? If it is more than twenty then we can assume this is the direction that modern man is headed and it is only going to get worst. In the early 1900's very few people had access to motorized vehicles, therefore most of the population were doing what men have been doing for centuries, walking or riding in a horse drawn carriage. As the century progressed and the availability of cheaper and multiple makes of automobiles became available, most of the world has been in, uses regularly or religiously worships some form of motorize transportation (especially those drunken fellows from Illinois driving Jeeps on flat tires. I can safely say that "her"story likes to repeat itself only with a different dress on and at a later date. If you take that statement I said above and use the word "computer" instead of "motorized vehicle", you'll see where I'm going with this. I haven't been at MyLot lately, not because I hate all of you dearly and hope you'll just die, but I've been sucked into a 3-D world using Renderware technology and I can't seem to get out of it.It wouldn't be so bad, but it is also a social... | |
| | Rules of Engagement | | Valentine's Day was extra special for me this year. I got engaged on the most romantic day of the year! My boyfriend-now-fiance took me to Frankenmuth, Michigan, which is a German tourist town only a few minutes from his house. He knows I absolutely love it there. He told me he was going to do something for me for my Valentine's Day gift that he'd wanted to do for a while. He took me on a horse-drawn carriage ride! It was so sweet of him and very romantic. About halfway through the ride, he got down on one knee, pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket, and read me the most beautiful poem that he had written just for the occasion. At the end, he told me he loved me and asked me to marry him! Of course, I said yes. I'm so excited! If you're engaged or married, share your story! If you're not, how would you like to get engaged? What is a good length of time for an engagement? What is the average amount of time it takes to plan a wedding? If there's anything else I need to know or any other tips you can offer me about my upcoming wedding, anything and everything is appreciated! | |
| | philippines: remembering president marcos | | municipal hall is the famed mansion of the Marcoses. It was closed to onlookers but we did take a picture of the exterior. The building was painted white but the giant hardwood door, which was closed on our visit, retained its natural color. To its right is the Marcos memorial—two adjacent buildings, one of which houses the former president’s preserved body, while the other displays his war memorabilia, pictures, desk, and statues. The burial chamber has a black interior and from the darkness of the place, I couldn’t identify the material used on the walls and on the floor. The room is quite big and air-conditioned, with an eerie music continuously playing. Despite his grand burial clothes and the medals that adorned him, the former president looked very small in his glass coffin, a stark contrast to the former big man in Malacañang with whom all the people are afraid of. We wanted so much to take pictures but the caretaker would never allow us.Beside the memorial building is the residence of the Marcos patriarch, Don Mariano Marcos, which now houses the Marcos museum and the office of the Hon. Representative Imee Marcos. But during our visit, the museum was under renovation... | |
| | Comparing the cost of some Inaugurations | | Clinton's last inauguration was $42 million.
Bush's last inauguration cost $40 million.OBAMA's inauguration cost over $150 million! I doubt that it cost anything for Lincoln's inauguration.
Here's some information about one of Lincoln's inaugurations. Look how simple!" Abraham Lincoln's Inauguration
March 4, 1861
Monday, March 4, 1861, was a big day for Abraham Lincoln and for America. That morning, he and outgoing President James Buchanan left the Willard Hotel, which is nearby the White House, in a horse-drawn carriage bound for the Capitol. Shortly after 1 p.m., Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Roger B. Taney administered the presidential oath of office. With the swearing of his official vows, Lincoln became the 16th president of the United States. His speech was a very important one because he would be speaking not only as the new president but also as the leader of a nation in crisis. Lincoln was well prepared. He had sought lots of help to deliver the right message in his inaugural address. "
